Bethesda then opened up more pre-orders, which of course sold out. With all the pre-orders snapped up, fans were left clamoring for Bethesda to list some more pre-orders, while many waited with bated breath for the chance to snap up the coveted collector’s edition on release day.
But according to Bethesda’s Marketing VP Pete Hines, there aren’t any many Pip-Boys coming. Before angry fans rally their pitchforks and torches, Hines stresses that this wasn’t a choice to drive up demand. Instead, the plant responsible for producing the Pip-Boy replicas simply can’t make anymore. Speaking to Gamespot at the recently concluded QuakeCon (where Bethesda revealed plenty of new information about Fallout 4), Hines said:
This revelation comes after Bethesda had managed to list several more pre-order opportunities for the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4, but with the collector’s edition in such demand, the relistings simply didn’t prove to be enough. According to Hines, demand was so high for the Pip-Boy that the manufacturing plant had to cancel other potential jobs, but it still ultimately wasn’t enough, with the Marketing VP stating:
While Bethesda is no stranger to collector’s editions, the company simply did not anticipate the reaction to the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition. Despite the factory cutoff, the company still managed to craft more Pip-Boys than Bethesda had ever created for other large pack-ins found in previous collector’s editions.
