Dreams has been a tricky title to define, primarily because of the amount of user creation and sharing in the game. Nevertheless, Dreams has achieved success because of its unique position of offering playable game modes and allowing players to create their own. While Fallout 4 may seem like a bit of a throwback to players, many have been excited to play through the level on Dreams.

Dreams has already managed to host several comical spoofs of games. Yet with incredible realistic versions of existing titles, borrowing aesthetics as well as mechanics, many will see the game as having infinite potential as long as users contribute. In this instance, the radiation green in the menu and the wilderness all looks indistinguishable from Fallout 4. With Bethesda’s recent issues with the content of Fallout 76, many fans may turn to these kinds of alternatives while the studio behind the franchise re-evaluates its vision.
It should be noted that the “Free Roam” game mode that is available is still a work in progress and features like a map need to be added. However, if the mode is completed some players may be tempted by a controversy-free Fallout styled game. The most recent game in the franchise, Fallout 76, has been a poorly received title that has lost fans of the series. Furthermore, while Fallout 4 was largely a success, some fans were disappointed. With this in mind, fans making a similar looking game may be a solid temporary solution.
Beyond a new DLC for Fallout 76, not too much is known about the future of the franchise. The series was one of Bethesda’s most successful franchises but the latest title has damaged its reputation greatly. While fans wait for more news about the Fallout series, many will be excited at the prospect of making their own maps and game modes which can look and play however they like. Dreams seems to have made a positive impression and it will be fascinating to see what fans come up with inside the game.
Dreams is available now, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
