According to the description, the Enhanced Wasteland Preset for Fallout 4 will make the game look less “washed out” while adding slightly more “vibrance” to the wasteland. The creator, Razed, has also stated that the mod features a few smaller tweaks which he believes will make the game look even better. Based on screenshots, the mod appears to increase color saturation while correcting visual contrast as well.
For now, this mod is exclusive to the PC version, but with Bethesda promising that mods will also become available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, console gamers may be able to download this down the road. PC gamers have been busy preparing new mods, like this customizable weapon, for the game since its announcement at E3 four months ago.
While fans have been undeniably excited for the next entry in the long running Fallout series, the one knock against Fallout 4 has been with its visuals. Many gamers have felt that the visuals were underwhelming for where current titles are at right now. Bethesda has since responded to these criticisms and taking into account that development on the game started prior to the announcement of the current generation of consoles, it makes sense that Fallout 4 looks “good” and not cutting edge.
Current reviews for Fallout 4 are also very strong, placing less stock in the graphics as compared to the actual gameplay elements, which look to keep players hooked for quite a long time. Our own review of the game also mentioned the visuals, but provided some good news for players as well, confirming that “character models certainly aren’t as sharp as some of what we’re seeing in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Metal Gear Solid 5, or other recently-released games, but the detail put into Boston’s landmarks and environment are still very impressive.”
If you’re planning on playing Fallout 4 on the PC, will you be downloading this mod? What do you think of this attempt by a PC user to update the visuals? Let us know in the comments below.
Fallout 4 launches on November 10, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
