Among the different aspects of Fallout being celebrated during its 25-year anniversary is the temporarily free price tag for Fallout 76 and the subscription associated with it, opening most of the RPG up to all players. Fallout confirmed on its Twitter account that the Fallout 1st content will be available at no charge until next week which is when it may revert to its prior pricing which is currently discounted. Like many other live-service titles, Fallout 76’s Fallout 1st program includes many cosmetics as well as currency to purchase more which allows players to customize their characters more thoroughly than having to rely on the open-world loot.

From now until October 17, Fallout 76 players will be able to use Fallout 1st content at their leisure without paying the membership fee, unlocking the Survival Tent, Scrapbox, Ranger Armor outfit, icons, emotes, cosmetics, and more. There are some important gameplay-related additions in Fallout 1st like the Private Adventure that expands on the lore of Appalachia, Custom Worlds which act like private servers, Atoms for acquiring more goodies, and scoreboard enhancements that reflect player rankings. Although current Fallout 1st subscribers may not see much benefit from the limited-time availability, other players have only five days to experiment with all the various aspects it adds to the game.
Fallout 1st initially rolled out in 2019 and like Fallout 76’s roadmap, it has seen multiple adjustments since players have gone hands-on with the content. On top of all the stuff offered in the Fallout 1st package, Fallout 76 has recently entered its Expeditions: The Pitt update which focuses on the alternate location of Pittsburgh. Given that this membership is regularly around $100 per year and there aren’t many opportunities of trying the content before purchasing, the Fallout 25-year anniversary may result in more long-term memberships.
Though many Fallout fans have felt scorned by the launch of Fallout 76, the game has undergone numerous changes since then and the 25-year anniversary may provide extra incentive to revisit the online RPG. While one former Fallout 76 player responded with criticisms of putting the Scrapbox behind a pay wall, some current Fallout 1st subscribers are clambering for more.
Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
