Bethesda has delayed the Fallout 76 Wastelanders update to Q1 of 2020. Wastelanders is said to the biggest free update for the game to date, and the company needs more time to polish it ahead of release. “We apologize for this delay but know it will be worth the extra time,” Bethesda said in a statement to fans. More details on the Wastelanders update are expected to come at a later date, but Bethesda has said that it “changes the entire world.”

In the meantime, there will be other updates coming to Fallout 76 a bit sooner than Wastelanders. Next week, Bethesda will be launching private worlds, allowing players to avoid griefers and things they may encounter elsewhere. Bethesda has promised that players will be able to use mods in their private Fallout 76 worlds, which is a big deal since mods have always been a major part of the Fallout franchise.
In its update to players, Bethesda also addressed its addition of non-cosmetic items to the Fallout 76 Atomic Shop. It said that implemented non-cosmetic items like Repair Kits, Scrap Kits, and the rest based on community feedback. Bethesda said that these items have become the most popular in the Atomic Shop, but it promises that it will not add items that will “upset the game’s balance.”
While some Fallout 76 players may be optimistic about the Wastelanders update, others may be disappointed to learn that the Atomic Shop will likely have more non-cosmetic items added. Bethesda once promised that the Fallout 76 Atomic Shop would consist strictly of cosmetic items that had no impact on gameplay, so it’s understandable that some fans are upset by this change.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if the Fallout 76 Wastelanders update is enough to convince lapsed players to return to the game or not.
