Announced by Bethesda Game Studios in a new statement on Twitter, the company has revealed that the highly-anticipated new update will be pushed back by a week due to issues concerning the Coronavirus. According to the company, final testing has been slowed due to the studio’s employees working from home, so Bethesda has elected to make players wait a tiny bit longer so that the team can be certain it’s delivering the best product possible.

The game will now shift from its prior April 7 release date to April 14, so players looking forward to the update won’t have to wait much longer before they can begin interacting with the new slate of NPCs being introduced to the title. The statement also claims that “critical services for all [its] live games are fully operating,” so those wondering whether 76 could falter after the launch of this brand new update shouldn’t worry too much. Naturally, this is a completely understandable delay that shows Bethesda Games Studios clearly cares about shipping a quality update to its fans, which is a strong sign seen as many have fired criticisms at the company over its handling of Fallout 76 during the last year.

While the delay is completely understandable, it can’t help but come as something of a disappointing blow to fans who have been cautiously optimistic about Fallout 76’s next big batch of content since it was shown off at last year’s E3. Since then, the update received a significant delay in October, so fans are no doubt growing impatient waiting for what many see as a big turning point for the online game as a whole.

It seems almost certain that Fallout 76’s Wastelander update won’t be the last video game product to be affected by the widespread of the Coronavirus, however, with a number of other studios alluding to the pandemic being a severe burden on development. Resident Evil 3’s physical copies could potentially be delayed due to the outbreak, while work on the next Smash DLC fighter and Call of Duty 2020 could be majorly affected as well.

Fallout 76’s Wastelanders update will be available on April 14, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
