For players, though, the fun part is learning how to make these glitches work for them rather than against them. Exploit glitches are a fun way to break the game, but in a way that can actually benefit the player in some way, whether its duplicating ammo, getting locked away weapons more easily or breaking the in-game economy. Here is a list of some fun game-breaking exploits from the Fallout franchise.

6 Escaping With All 37 Gold Bars – Fallout: New Vegas

The central theme of the Dead Money DLC is that those who came to the Sierra Madre were undone by their own greed and curiosity for the treasure it held. The hardest part wasn’t breaking into the casino, it was letting go of what they found there. Fortunately, Fallout: New Vegas is only a video game, and the player can fell free to disregard this moral lesson if they want to.

A great way to do this is to use a hilarious exploit that allows the player to escape with all 37 bars of gold that they were supposed to “let go” of. The glitch is simple: the player must kill Father Elijah, take his severed head, and put the gold in his inventory. All that’s left now is to just carry the head to the exit of the casino, unencumbered by the weight of all the gold it holds.

5 Keeping Operation Anchorage Gear – Fallout 3

There is a rather well-known glitch that allows the player to take the Anchorage simulation weapons, ammo, and armor into the base game. Though it can be tricky, it’s actually a rather simple process. There is a locked room with a Gary corpse lying on the floor. Take this corpse and prop it up in the simulation chair in such a way that when the player sits in the chair that Gary’s inventory can be opened.

Complete the simulation normally (while collecting as much loot as possible). As the screen is fading back into the base game, spam the interact button/key rapidly. This will open Gary’s inventory and allow the player to stash their loot in his corpse. These items (minus the ammo) are unbreakable, which makes them very useful.

4 Dogmeat Finds the Cryolator – Fallout 4

While Bethesda has attempted to patch this easy exploit before, it is still possible for the player to get Dogmeat to fetch the Cryolator out of its master locked case much earlier in the game. If Dogmeat is brought into the small room where the Cryolator case is kept and the door behind his is closed, telling him to search for a weapon will result in him picking the Cryolator up out of its case along with its ammo.

The player can then grab the weapon out of his inventory by choosing to trade in the dialogue options. This means that even a low leveled player can easily obtain this powerful weapon early in the game’s story.

3 Reverse Pickpocketing For Loot

Everyone knows how fun it is to plant a grenade in somebody’s pocket and watch as they explode in hilarious fashion. However, this is not the only thing pickpocketing is good for. In fact, pickpocketing is a great way to steal unique items that can’t be obtained normally or without killing that particular NPC.

Reverse pickpocketing simply involves putting a certain item, be it clothing or a weapon, in an NPC’s inventory that is better than what they currently have in some way. This causes them to equip that item and put the unique item into their inventory, allowing the player to then pickpocket that item. This is a great way to obtain unique items like Lucas Simms’ sheriff hat in Fallout 3 or the La Longue Carabine in Fallout: New Vegas for example.

2 Duplication Glitch – Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is awash with duplication methods. One way of performing a duplication glitch is by using Fallout 4’s settlement building mechanics to increase building and crafting resources. It involves dropping the desired item and holding both the scrap and store buttons simultaneously so that both menus pop up.

Release the scrap button first but while continuing to hold the store button, and hit OK to scrap. Then hit OK to store without holding anything down. If done correctly (it’s a bit finicky), it should double the amount of the item in question.

1 Easy Experimental MIRV – Fallout 3

The Experimental MIRV is one of the most devastating weapons in Fallout history, and it is surprisingly easy to obtain if the right exploit is made. Normally, the player is forced to scour the Capital Wasteland for the five Keller family holotapes in order to unlock the armory bunker in the National Guard Depot; however, this isn’t actually necessary.

All the player has to do is go up to the right-hand side of the second locked metal door and crouch. Going into third person and manipulating the camera until one sees the “activate electrical switch” prompt will essentially allow them to open the door from the other side, totally bypassing the need for the Keller logs and rewarding the player with an absurdly powerful weapon.
