While its subscriber count has fluctuated over the years, there’s no doubt that World of Warcraft has permeated a lot of facets in pop culture and has even made its way into the mainstream as well. It seems the game will again be making its way to the mainstream, in a way, as it will be featured as the theme for this Sunday’s Family Guy episode. While there are no details on specific plot points for the episode as of this writing, it is safe to assume that the show will look to parody the game, as it has done with other franchises in the past, like Star Wars.

World of Warcraft has been featured in popular TV shows before, with none more popular than the Season 10 episode of South Park from October of 2006. In it, the boys got seriously addicted to the game when another, higher level player, killed their characters, along with other player characters. They then made it their priority to become more powerful to defeat their digital nemesis, which ended up leading to the addiction to the game. The Warcraft series also had its own movie that came out a few years ago, which despite mediocre reviews, has since become the most successful video game movie to date.

It is also interesting that Family Guy would be doing an episode with a theme South Park has already done. The reason this is so interesting, is that both shows have taken shots at the other over the years. South Park even had a couple of episodes dedicated to poking fun at the Fox series.

The World of Warcraft game itself is set to be in the spotlight even more, as it was announced at the 2017 Blizzcon that the game would be getting a new expansion, Battle for Azeroth. Blizzard also announced at the event that a vanilla version of the game will also be coming out, and will be titled World of Warcraft Classic. There are currently no details on the specific release date for either at the time of this writing.

World of Warcraft is now available on PC.
